New Year message from Greenpeace

22 January 2021

We see a future that's powered by renewable energy. A future where we work in a green economy with greater job security. A future where we enjoy life on a safe, healthy planet full of plants and wildlife can thrive. A future that's better for all of us and for generations to come.

We urgently need your support, right now, to overcome the combined climate, nature and health emergencies.

Millions of people are suffering due to droughts, flooding and crop failures. Precious species such as jaguars and orangutans are losing their forest habitats on opposite sides of the globe. Every day, we are living through a pandemic that has devastated lives across the world.

But there are four big opportunities for change in 2021. These will give our leaders the chance to rebuild a better future. They can do this by:

  1. Investing in a green economy as the UK negotiates new trade deals.
  2. Stopping the reckless destruction of nature at the Convention on Biodiversity.
  3. Declaring a global sanctuary for marine life at the 2021 UN Oceans Summit.
  4. Ending our reliance on fossil fuels at the UN Climate Conference.

There is still time to end the climate and nature emergencies. The solutions are really clear. Throughout 2021, we must tell companies and governments to:

STOP the addiction to dirty fossil fuels
SWITCH to renewable energy and clean transport
SAVE our forests and oceans

If they act, we can rebuild a better future together - now and for generations to come.
