Transport Group takes off!
27 June 2012
Last Tuesday (26 June) the meeting to discuss the formation of a transport group got off to a great start, attended by about a dozen enthusiastic people, including the project working group.
Lots of work has been going on at the Million Miles project and all the paid posts have been filled! Contacts are also being made with people and organisations who might be supportive.
There was a useful discussion at the meeting which immediately identified ways in which the Million Miles project would benefit from the knowledge and expertise of a wider group of supporters. We also felt that these supporters would have varied interests, would come from distinct geographical areas within the Black Isle, and would have different amounts of time to contribute.
The Million Miles Project Officers will get back to people who have already indicated their interest to see how and when they might want to be involved. The group will also contact the wider TBI membership to see whether, and how, they would like to help. This will help to ensure that people aren't inundated with information they don't want, but still receive relevant information. The meeting used the term "Cloud" rather than "Group" as a way of emphasising the variety of interests and the potential for sub-groups to form in order to carry out specific tasks. The Project Officers will maintain a list of supporters and their interests and we expect that it will grow as the project proceeds.
With this flexible structure we envisage volunteers getting involved in well defined issues and activities. There will also be larger scale meetings roughly every 3 months, to which everyone will be invited. These will provide an opportunity to update volunteers on the whole project, but each meeting will also have a specific focus (cycling, lift-share, etc.). That way the group hope that supporters feel meetings are more worthwhile because they will link to specific activity in the future.
