Latest news on the Renewable Heat Incentive

12 September 2011

Proposals for a financial incentive to encourage the use of renewable technologies for heating (the Renewable Heat Incentive, or RHI) have been around for a while, but the domestic scheme isn't going to be fully implemented until autumn 2012. In the meantime, however, there is a Renewable Heat Premium Payment offering one-off capital sums to homeowners installing solar thermal panels, heat pumps and biomass heating systems. What's more, anyone who qualifies for the Premium Payment should also receive the annual payment from the RHI once it is finally introduced. So it looks like a good time to be introducing these measures, but eligibility is subject to all sorts of conditions. In view of the confusion surrounding the topic, Transition Black Isle Energy Group member Jess Christman has produced a paper explaining the current position, click here for more details.
