Cromarty Community Market goes from strength to strength

09 July 2011

The 3rd Cromarty Community Market today was another success, with about 250 people through the door not including stallholders. This time the market café was provided by the Cromarty Fourways Club, who were completely booked to capacity. We understand they were delighted. Of course they also brought many extra people in to the market too to sample their excellent soup and cakes.

Although two stalwart volunteers were away this month, we had some excellent help from a number of people which is very much appreciated.

We have discovered the hard way that letting stalls be allocated on a first come, first served basis doesn’t work. Demand for tables is increasing and we are going to have to start allocating spaces, at least to regular stallholders, as N Kessock and Ferintosh Community Markets already do.

There will be no Cromarty market in August but we are hoping for an even bigger and better one on 10 September to coincide with Doors Open day and the Black Isle Words Festival. Any local people who would like to book a stall should contact John Wood (telephone 01381 600491; email jwood42@gmail.com ) for details.

Don't forget that there are also Community Markets at Ferintosh (Findon Hall Culbokie) on the 3rd Saturday in the month and at North Kessock Hall on the last Saturday in the month.  These are both open from 10 am - 12 noon (unlike Cromarty, which is open from 11.30 - 2.30).

All the Black isle Community Markets offer local fresh food; arts and crafts; swap your stuff; refreshments; plants; soap; jewellery; prints and cards; jams, chutneys; baking; information and more.

We are part of the rapidly expanding worldwide Transition Towns movement. The Black Isle is a peninsula of about 100 sq miles ENE of Inverness in Scotland, UK.
