JOIN IN THE JAM AT NORTH KESSOCK!

25 October 2010

A POPULAR Black Isle market is to feature a series of food and drink demonstrations over the winter.

North Kessock Community Market in the village hall from 10am to 12noon on the last Saturday of every month has become a fixture on the local shoppers’ calendar.

The community market features locally grown fruit, vegetables, meat and poutry as well as home baking, cakes, preserves and a range of crafts.

Over the winter there will also be dynamic demonstrations on topics such as making your own fruit beverages and cheese.

“We’re running these events as part of our Highland Food Challenge, which encourages people to eat more locally,” explained market coordinator Freya Manson.

“We have a fantastic variety of delicious fresh food available here in the Black Isle and across the Highlands. We’re collating some great recipes and will be demonstrating techniques for making the most of seasonal produce all year round.”

This month’s demonstration will follow the market at North Kessock Hall on Saturday from 12:30 to 2pm and will focus on preserving fruit and vegetables, making jams, pickles, chutneys and more.

“There’s still time to sign up for the Highland Food Challenge and win some custom-made mugs and teapots from the Cromarty Pottery,” Freya added
