LAUNCH OF HIGHLAND FOOD CHALLENGE

03 August 2010

THE launch of the Highland Food Challenge attracted hundreds of people to the Transition Black Isle stand at the Black Isle Show.

Guessing the miles travelled by items in a basket of groceries proved a popular activity and led to lots of interesting discussions about shopping and eating.

The Highland Food Challenge involves eating food sourced mainly from the Highlands and encourages participants to Eat Local, Eat Organic, Eat Seasonal and Eat Vegetable.  It is a great all-season way of eating which will help you learn new recipes, keep healthy and keep the planet in good health as well.

By encouraging participants to seek out local produce and find organic alternatives we aim to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions created by food production and distribution.

E-mail us to find out more and to recieve the Highland Food Challenge pack, which includes handy hints and tips and a Local Food Directory and map.  All households that sign up are in with a chance of winning some stunning local pottery from the Cromarty Pottery Shop!

We are part of the rapidly expanding worldwide Transition Towns movement. The Black Isle is a peninsula of about 100 sq miles ENE of Inverness in Scotland, UK.
