Allanglach Wood under threat

18 August 2024

Jamie Stone MP has highlighted concerns about the proposed felling of Allanglach Wood near Munlochy, and hopes that community action might be able to save it.

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS), who own the wood, announced some time ago that they plan to cut down a large part of the forest - six hectares - later this year.  They say that the trees are so old and have grown so high that many of them are in danger of falling if there is a storm.

Jamie Stone says that the wood is important on account of the presence of red squirrels and rare species of fungi, and it is used by the animal aid centre and the community for dog walking and recreation.
