First year reviewed

Architecture and Design Scotland, who lead the Climate Action Towns initiative funded by the Scottish Government (the towns include Alness and Invergordon),  have reviewed the first year of the project.  The article outlines five important lessons A&DS have learned so far about how to take climate action with greater urgency and efficiency - The first of which is  'Start a climate conversation by not talking about climate'.

Climate action towns

In March 2021, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform announced that we would work with Architecture and Design Scotland to deliver a network of Climate Action Towns.

This initiative will involve seven small towns, in the first instance, providing them with support to develop local plans focused on climate action, as we aspire to giving everyone in Scotland the means to have a say in how their local area should change as part of a fair and just transition to net zero.

The seven towns named in November 2021 are Alness (Highlands), Annan (Dumfries and Galloway), Blackburn (West Lothian), Campbeltown (Argyll and Bute), Holytown (North Lanarkshire), Invergordon (Highlands), and Stevenston (North Ayrshire).
