Julian Paren spent his professional career as a scientist working in the Arctic and Antarctic specializing in the climate record of ice cores and glaciological studies on the Antarctic ice sheet.  On retirement Julian lectured for the University of Cambridge on environmental topics and tutored for the OU.  He was a founder member of the Cambridge Ecology Party and the Ecology Building Society and is a Trustee of the Gatliff Hebridean Hostels Trust.  He works a smallholding above Munlochy with Mary, his wife, and they have reduced their carbon footprint and become more self-sufficient in fruit and vegetables.  He attended the inaugural meeting of TBI in 2009 and was hooked.
