| We fitted out a new kitchen last year and spent a bit of time working out which cookers, fridges, etc. were the most energy-efficient. As far as electric kettles are concerned, the conversion of electricity to heat is pretty much 100% efficient, so there isn't much scope for efficiency improvements. Our conclusion was the most efficient kettle is one that has just the right amount of water.
So, who over-fills their kettle? I think almost everyone does, but if you ask, no-one admits it. So, here's my top tip - next time you make a cuppa, pour the remaining contents into another cup, and see how much extra you just heated up.
