Solid wall insulation is a really important issue in Scotland. It's expensive and disruptive, and either reduces living space if done internally or changes the appearance of the house if done externally. It can also have far-reaching effects on the movement of water vapour through the wall, so if done badly can damage the structure of the house. On the other hand, it's often the measure which will have the biggest impact on heat loss through the structure of the building.

I went to an excellent one-day conference on the subject, organised by Changeworks, and the report from the conference is now available for download at http://www.changeworks.org.uk/projects/solid-wall-conference/640/ . I haven't read it yet, but if it reflects the conference itself, it will be really useful to anyone thinking about insulating their walls, or indeed to contractors, architects and other professionals in the field.
