| An interesting snippet of information - Google have been carrying out research into renewables for the last few years, and have just announced a change in direction. Initially they were looking at developing technologies where they had the potential to invest to take them into the mainstream. Their conclusion from that work is that there are no technologies that fit that description. This may be a bit depressing, but it confirms a lot of other work that shows there is nothing obvious that will allow us to continue our current habits, but switch seamlessly from fossil fuel to renewables - so we need to reduce consumption as well as switch to renewables.
To their credit, having worked that one out, Google are now investing in off-shore wind farms - not exactly a proven technology, but one where there's a plausible development plan to make it mainstream. |
