Whatever you call it, it matters . .

In discussions about Rewilding / Nature Conservation, there is a wide range of opinion and feeling about what it is, the need for it, and how it should be done.  It covers a wide range of activities, including restoring vegetation to over-grazed upland pastures,  re-meandering rivers to reduce flood risk downstream, and reintroducing formerly native species such as beavers or lynx.

To discuss these issues and tell us about their rewilding activities, we have brought together a team of experts representing the organisations most prominently involved in nature conservation in the Highlands.  Each will give a short presentation and answer questions, after which the meeting will be opened for a general  discussion.  Our speakers are

Dr Penelope Whitehorn, joint chief scientist for Highlands Rewilding on their estate at Bunloit on the west side of Loch Ness

Alan McDonnell, Head of Nature Restoration for Trees for Life at Dundreggan, Glenmoriston

Innes MacNeill, Estate Manager for the Alladale Estate at Ardgay

Isla MacLeod, Conservation Biologist for Mossy Earth's Wilder Firths project, working towards restoring native oysters and seagrass round the shores of the Black Isle

Thomas Widrow, Campaigns Manager for the John Muir Trust, who is based in Inverness.
