SCCAN event - What has been learned from Scotland's Climate Assembly?
20 September 2022, Starts: 19:00, Ends: 20:30
Tuesday 20 September 7.00 - 8.30 online
The Scottish Government funded a citizens’ assembly on climate change, from Oct 2020 to March 2021. Over 100 people - broadly representative of the Scottish population - deliberated on the question "How should Scotland change to tackle the climate emergency in an effective and fair way?"
See the extensive presentations they heard here. The assembly reported to Parliament in June 2021, and the Government responded in December 2021. Has there been any tangible impact on Scottish government policy as a result of this important participatory and representative process? Scottish Government social researchers led by Dr Nadine Andrews have analysed the process of convening the assembly, its outcomes and what it impacts it has had.
The panel will include Dr Stephen Elstub from Newcastle University, and activists Justin Kenrick and Eva Schonfeld.
