Climate Feis - Salmon Farming: the status quo is not an option

04 August 2021, Starts: 19:00

Wednesday 4 August     7.00     by Zoom

A talk by local environmentalist, James Merryweather

“James Merryweather gained his higher degrees at the University of York, studying the ecological relationships of bluebells and soil fungi (mycorrhiza).  At the same time, he was a performing musician with the early music band The York Waits, but twenty years ago left all that behind and moved to the Highlands where he was able to indulge fully his enthusiasm for ecology, seashore biology and ferns (and play in our remarkable orchestra).

Last year he had the good fortune to attract the interest of a top publisher who added his latest book Britain’s Ferns to the prestigious WildGuides series.  As a member of Skye & Lochalsh Environment Forum, James was involved with the founding of the South Skye Seas Initiative and the Scottish Salmon Think-Tank, both groups working in their different ways to protect our local sea lochs from ecologically harmful exploitation: salmon farming and seabed dredging.”
