Not quite sure if you as a group would be interested in investigating / taking this on but ....
I occasionally use the RBS branch in Munlochy (open on Tue & Thurs only) and on the last two occasions the car park has been full. Given I was only going to be mins, naughtily I parked in one of the two free disabled bays.
On the second visit it mentioned to one of the ladies in the bank who told me they had only parked in the car park 2 - 3 times during the last year and arrive at 08:50 (Tue & Thurs). With permission, they park in the pub carpark.

Apparently there are 6 employees at the accountants, not sure where the post office manager lives, maybe he uses a space.
Makes you think?

What dawned on me was that people MIGHT BE using the car park to do car sharing into Inverness or other place of work.

It is a good that the car park is used but if the vehicles are left all day then casual short term users of the PO / shop / bank do not have any off street parking, and park on the road, defeating the reason for the car park being constructed.

I wonder if a survey could be done to see if the car pool / sharing is being informally carried out, i.e. questionnaire on windscreen. If so, could it be developed / formalising at an "out of village" location.

Any thoughts?

I have already suggested to the council that we need a cycle rack there, sadly lacking in Munlochy and would like one at every bus stop so people can do 'cycle and ride' into Inverness rather than randomly dumping bikes at lamp-posts as my family tend to do. The council are planning a park and ride in Tore and there is some land for sale near the roundabout.

The trouble is, of course, that we have been trying to live a 21st Century life in a series of 16th Century villages. Then allowing them to grow into suburbs of Inverness.
Getting back to the Munlochy carpark issue. So far it appears to have been more of a success than the Carparks in Fortrose and Rosemarkie. As far as taking resident parking off the street is concerned. That looks to be it's main purpose, allowing passing trade to more easily park in front of the shop. If they really wanted to stop parking in the street they would have put the Zebra crossing in front of the shop (although that doesn't stop them in Avoch).
In Fortrose, for instance i know that the OAPs that live in Feddon Hill will drive down and leave their cars in the Station carpark before taking the bus to town. (free bus pass)
You mentioned both the Bank and the Post office and, of course, we killed off the Mobile Bank and Post Office and Shop, all of which were low carbon services for those living outside the villages.
To get back to Munlochy, i would suggest that, from a transition point of view, parting on the street is to be encouraged. Perhaps even call for traffic calming features like the one in Rosemarkie.
In fact the upcoming bridge works might be the best thing for Munlochy, diverting traffic away from the Village.
