I came across this wonderful description of the benefits of scything from Wendell Berry (writer, activist, environmentalist, campaigner).

In essence he describes his own conversion from a noisy smelly 'power scythe' ie strimmer, to a hand scythe.

Several of us now have really good austiran scythes and have received some training in its use and sharpening. I'd be happy to pass on what we've learned to anyone who is interested.

Great article. He might be slightly over-stating the relative danger of scythe and strimmer, but otherwise absolutely right.
