Controlled Environment Agriculture: Opportunities for Highland Farmers & Growers
02 March 2022, Starts: 10:30, Ends: 16:00
Wednesday 2 March 10.30 - 4.00
Dingwall Mart, Bailechaul Road, Humberston, IV15 9TP
This meeting, jointly organised by the Highland Good Food Partnership and SAOS on behalf of the Scotland Food and Drink Partnership and supported by Scottish Government, provides an opportunity for existing growers interested in expanding their growing season, and farmers curious about CEA to learn more about producing for local markets.
Key speakers:
Jo Hunt - Year Round Growing Ambitions
Chris Need - The Latest Approaches to CEA
Kyle Smith - Renewable Energy Approaches and Solutions
Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) is expanding globally driven by technological advances, food security concerns, diet and the climate emergency. It has the potential to allow for food production year-round. To date CEA has taken place in large greenhouse structures. More recently, vertical farms, often relying fully on artificial light, have expanded CEA, particularly in urban areas. Developments in polytunnel design suggest CEA operations are feasible in these types of structures.
