Black Isle Horticultural Society Plant Sale 2021

29 May 2021, Starts: 10:00, Ends: 14:00

Saturday 29 May  outside Gordon Memorial Hall Rosemarkie

10.00 - 2.00

BIHS Secretary Graham Sullivan writes

Last year we had to cancel our usual Plant Sale, but as the Covid situation improves we can hold one this year. This is a chance to buy plants grown locally by interested gardeners, so as well as common ones, you’ll be able to find some special herbaceous and alpine plants, wild flowers to make your own meadow, tomatoes and chilis for the greenhouse, unusual vegetables (like the perennial Daubenton’s kale, Tree spinach, and Oca), and terrariums for the house.

We’ll make sure the event is safe by conforming to Scottish Government guidelines. The sale will last longer than usual, with plenty of space, and we’ll put plants out throughout the sale, so there’s no need to rush at the start to get the best ones – whenever you arrive, we expect to have a good selection. There will be social distancing and a one-way system, hand sanitiser will be available, and we recommend that you wear a mask. Please bring a variety of change to minimise cash handling. If you can bring your own boxes or bags to take plants away that will be helpful. If you’re coming by car please park in the public car park off the main street in Rosemarkie in order to leave the Hall parking available for those with limited mobility and for deliveries. Note that the Hall toilets will not be available, although the public toilets in the main street are open.

The sale is an important fund-raising event for the Society, and if you can help by donating any plants as well as coming along to buy some, that will be very much appreciated. It would be helpful if you could let us know in advance (01349 861991, bihs1955@gmail.com) if you’re bringing plants, so we can make arrangements. Also, if you know someone who would be interested in the sale but isn’t online, please let them know about it.

I’ve attached a poster for the sale – if you have anywhere you can display it, we’d be very grateful. (We recognise that not all local noticeboards etc are functioning normally just now.)

You can find more details, including a list of some of the plants that will be available, on our website http://www.spanglefish.com/blackislehorticulturalsociety
and on our Facebook page.
