TBI Transition Talk and Discussion - Food Waste - Fortrose 7.30

03 April 2019, Starts: 19:30

Our first Transition Talks event generated a great discussion about how we can best change society to achieve our goal of a society living within the limits of our planet. (It isn’t going to be easy, but we can’t stop trying!) We enjoyed the debate, and liked the format and venue – so we’re having another one!

This will be at the Fortrose Café again,          on Wednesday 3rd April, from 7.30 pm.

The topic for discussion will be “Food Waste” – what more should we be doing to help people reduce the amount of food they throw out?

In 2015, the average UK household wasted £470 on food that was thrown out when it could have been eaten.  The environmental consequences are widespread – the extra greenhouse gases released in growing and transporting the food, the resources taken up with waste disposal, and the emissions from decaying food waste.  And although domestic food waste is 70% of the total, there’s also waste from retail outlets, catering and entertainment.

The café will be open from 7.30, and we’ll start the proceedings at 7.45 – so that gives a short period to buy a cuppa and maybe a cake (food for thought?) before we start.
