Saturday 18 November 7.30 Resolis Memorial Hall
The Cairngorm Mountains
come to the Black Isle in this premier collaboration between
Resolis Community Arts & The Cromarty Arts Trust
An “outstanding piece of multi-media art” is coming to Resolis Memorial Hall this month. Performed by one of Scotland’s most respected singer-songwriters & musician – Jenny Sturgeon – together with Alice Allen (Cello) and Sarah Hayes (bass, keys, samples), The Living Mountain is a powerful blend of music, words and images.
The celebrated book by Nan Shepherd, whose portrait graces some £5 bank notes, gives the show its title and is the inspiration and core of the performance. Devised by Jenny Sturgeon, the project explores Nan's writing: the Cairngorms and our relationships with the wild; through lyrical, melodic and visual interpretation. These meditative experiences are a soothing and poignant exploration of what it means to connect with a landscape and to find a sense of place.
“Nan Shepherd’s writing has found a perfect musical equivalent in Jenny Sturgeon’s stunning, snow-encrusted and sun-dappled songs. She has created a work of rare beauty: to hear The Living Mountain is to hear the song of the Cairngorms.” Folk Radio
Don’t miss what another reviewer has described as a “bewitching work of wisdom and light”, drawn from an album nominated as 2021 Scottish Album of the Year.
A performance in 2 parts with refreshments and home baking available at the interval, and/or B.Y.O.B.
