Black Isle Horticultural Society Spring Plant Sale

18 May 2024

Starts: 11:00
Ends: 13:00

Saturday 18 May    11.00 - 1.00      Rosemarkie
On the grass outside the Gordon Memorial Hall

Graham Sullivan, BIHS Secretary, writes

Less than a week to go until our Plant Sale!

As usual, we’ve had many generous and interesting donations of plants from members and friends, so again there’s a chance to buy interesting plants grown locally by interested gardeners. As well as some of the more common plants, you’ll be able to find some special herbaceous and alpine plants, native plants, herbs, tomatoes and chilis for the greenhouse, trees, unusual vegetables, and more.

At the sale, we won’t put everything out at once, more plants will be put out on the stalls during the sale, so we will still have a good selection if you don’t arrive at the start.

As we did last year, we’re indicating prices by coloured lollipop sticks in the plant pots. This helps to keep things simple and speed up the payment process. There will be plenty of notices indicating the prices represented by each colour- if you want to check them in advance, see the picture below.

We can accept card and phone payments as well as cash at the sale.

We will have a supply of boxes and bags, but it will be really helpful if you can bring your own to take plants away.

If you’re coming by car, please park in the public car park off the main street in Rosemarkie in order to leave the Hall parking available for those with limited mobility and for deliveries and collection. Note that the Hall toilets will not be available, but the public toilets close by in the main street are open.

And finally, we’re always looking for extra volunteers to assist in running the Sale – if you feel you can help, please get in touch!

To Sunday 26 - Inverness Festival of Walking and Wheeling

18 May 2024

Saturday 18 - Sunday 26 May   Various events and locations

Organisers Karen Bartke and Grace Nicoll write

The Inverness festival is a week long celebration of walking and wheeling.

We aim to shine a light on the wonderful opportunities available in the heart of the Highlands to enjoy the benefits of being active outdoors!

The festival is organised by Partnerships for Wellbeing who have organised free Health Walks since 2004 and brings together nearly 30 different organisations to offer a variety of activities for different ages and abilities.

Getting active is great for our health & wellbeing and can also benefit the health of our environment. We can all play our part in reducing our carbon footprint by taking short, local journeys by foot, wheeling or public transport. The festival will champion active travel in all its forms!

This year we are also launching the Loop of Health, History & Hope where we are inviting walkers, wheelers and cyclists to explore the active travel paths circling the city. Our colourfully illustrated ‘Loop Map’ will guide you to discover 20 different points along the route where you’ll find a QR code to see bird’s eye views of the city, and some historical tidbits about each location. Look out for pink elephants, Greek philosophers and some very studious swans…pick up a map and you’ll find out what we’re on about!

Lots more information on the website

We are part of the rapidly expanding worldwide Transition Towns movement. The Black Isle is a peninsula of about 100 sq miles ENE of Inverness in Scotland, UK.
