Covid-19 update 10 June Graham Sullivan, BIHS Secretary, writes
Earlier this year, as the Covid-19 pandemic began to affect events in Scotland, our committee cancelled our Plant Sale that was scheduled for May, and agreed that in early June we would make a decision about our Summer Show scheduled for 8th August, in the light of Scottish Government restrictions and guidance in place at the time. Well, we’ve now had that discussion, and agreed that it will not be possible to hold the Show this year, primarily because it will not be possible to ensure social distancing at an event of this kind, even if there is further relaxation of the current guidance. While this is very disappointing, we think that following Scottish Government guidance to ensure people’s safety is the correct thing to do.
We do think there are some things that we can do online – for example, we can probably run the photo and botanical illustration classes, and we may be able to adapt some of the other classes so that they can also be run online. We’ll be thinking more about this over the next few weeks, and we’ll let you know our plans. If you’ve got any bright ideas about what we could do, please let us know!
In the meantime, we do have some competitions running online, so if you haven’t already, please check our Facebook page or our website http://www.spanglefish.com/blackislehorticulturalsociety/index.asp for details.
