Potato Day 2018

TBI's 8th Potato Day will be held on Saturday 3rd March at North Kessock Village Hall.

There will be two sessions, from 11.00 - 1.00 and 1.30 - 3.00, with the usual wide range of seed potato varieties on sale at 15p per tuber.  Please bring your own bags.

Admission is £1.00, TBI members and under-16s free.  Refreshments - soup and rolls, tea, coffee and cakes - will be available all day.

Potatoes will be held back for the afternoon session so most varieties will be available all day.

Any potatoes remaining after our event will be on sale at subsequent Black Isle Community Markets.

LATE NOTICE
One of the varieties on this year's list  Navan (maincrop)  has turned out to be unavailable.  It has been replaced with two other maincrop varieties  Barna  and  Galactica.  We hope to have descriptive notes about these before Saturday.

Barna          Desiree x Cara
Excellent robust variety suitable for diverse cooking uses including French fries. It has very good storage qualities and has resistance to diseases such as tuber late blight, blackleg. Susceptible to powdery scab, potato cyst nematode and potato cyst nematode

Galactica     Torridon x Picasso
Excellent high yielding early parti-coloured variety. Galactica shows resistance to tuber blight, common scab and Potato Cyst Nematode  but susceptibility to foliage blight.

A leaflet with prices and other information and a plan of the hall layout will be available on the day, or you can download them here.

This year's varieties list and  full descriptive list with information and recommendations for each variety are now available to view or download.  It would be a good idea to download and print the lists to be sure of having a copy in your hands on the day.

There is also a Potato Day poster, skilfully prepared as usual by Wendy, and the more people who are able to display this or pass it around their friends the more successful the event will be.  There are two versions, one 2xA5 on an A4 sheet, and one a full A4 sheet, both as .pdf files.  Please download, print and circulate.
