Market Organiser, North Kessock Community Market

Transition Black Isle

North Kessock Community Market started in 2009.  This was in response to Transition Black Isle’s desire  to provide a space for local people to be able to purchase local food and goods, thereby reducing food miles and increasing community resilience.  It takes place from 10 am to 12.30 pm on the last Saturday of the month.  It is one of three Community Markets on the Black Isle together with Culbokie Community Market and Cromarty Community Market and the three markets collaborate on some publicity.

The role:

Transition Black Isle wishes to contract the services of a part-time Market Organiser for North Kessock Community Market working from home. . 

The organiser will be required to

  • Contact all stall holders prior to the market and confirm who will be attending
  • Organise publicity in conjunction with TBI trustees and food group including leafleting, displaying posters, posting on social media and advertising as appropriate
  • Set up and ensure smooth running of the market with the help of volunteers
  • Collect stall fees, give receipts and forward money to Transition Black Isle
  • Book venues for the market
  • Keep accurate records of income and expenditure of each monthly market
  • Maintain at least monthly contact with Transition Black Isle through a designated contact
  • Help organise and promote other food events organised by Transition Black Isle together with volunteers
  • Attend occasional meetings with other market managers (generally about once a year), to share ideas and co-ordinate publicity.

The successful applicant will be a self-starter, passionate about promoting local food and crafts as a way of reducing carbon emissions by avoiding long supply chains and promoting community cohesion.

Other information:

If successful this will be for a 3 month trial period which would become permanent if both sides agree.

The closing date is Thursday 13th February and the interviews will be held on 19th and 21st February.

The market organiser will work from home and have access to a computer and have a means of transport to the market.  We encourage active travel or use of public transport where practical.

Allowance £175 per month for a notional 13 hours which includes the market.
