Grow North session 1
Coppicing and tool care
Sunday 15 March 10.00 - 1.00 at Lesley Robb's house
Greenhill Steading, Greenhill, Culbokie IV7 8JZ (map below)
Tutor: Fiona (Fuggo) King
The aim of the session was to learn how to properly care for and sharpen ones garden tools, like secateurs, axes, garden loppers, shears etc. Participants were able to hone their skills by sharpening their own tools. Then an introduction to coppicing, what it's purpose is and the group had a go coppicing a couple of Lesley's hazel trees.
Thanks to Fuggo (Fiona King) for leading and Lesley for use of premises and trees ....and providing delicious scones at coffee break....
Feeback from a happy participant
'Thank you our splendid tutor (Fuggo King) for this morning's workshop. It was very good indeed and I'm sure I wasn't alone in feeling greatly 'empowered'. With a confident few sweeps of the (tool sharpening) file this evening, I even have sharp kitchen knives!
And an inspection of the hazel tree along our drive reveals that it has many good straight poles 'needing' cut.... just when I'm looking for more garden stakes ;-)
Thanks again, stay healthy and let's look forward to some outside gardening soon.'
