The last weekend of June saw 19 of us benefit from Jeff Forest`s Permaculture training.
The way I understand this Permaculture is about how we care for the earth, the people in it and being fair to all species in what we do day by day.
About 1/3 of us chose to look at how we got to the training at Glachbeg ie car, bike , walk etc
Some people only attended 1 day and most travelled by car with 3 each day cycling.
However on the sunday having arranged car shares we were able to save 30kg of CO2
or .9kg per person.
I hope in the future to take this into account when arranging meetings etc what do you think?
I have asked Wendy to put it on the agenda for the next main meeting

From what i've read there are two ways to look at it.

1. The first is like Carbon offsetting. Put the amount of carbon created during training against the amount of carbon NOT produced as a result of the training. In this case i think the right balance was struck by bringing the trainer TO the trainees.

2. Or in terms of the training being part of the Transition and not just a means of enabling Transition. How can i avoid travelling, or not travel as far? Easier to do i would assume if you already do this in your normal day to day. But allowing for the fact that almost all the alternative have not Transitioned - still use oil for fuel.

We are part of the rapidly expanding worldwide Transition Towns movement. The Black Isle is a peninsula of about 100 sq miles ENE of Inverness in Scotland, UK.
