There is a list of forums eg. 'Highland Food Challenge', each functions much as the previous Google group. These forums are grouped into 'categories' eg. 'Food Group'. Each forum will have 'threads' containing messages users have posted and user replies to those messages.

When you view the front page of the forums you see the list of forums

When you enter a forum (by clicking on its name), the prevous page disappears and you see the 'threads ' that users have started in that forum. You can start a new thread by clicking on the 'New Thread' button and typing your message. You 'post' your message by clicking on the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the page, the 'Preview' button lets you see how it will appear before you finally post it (useful if graphics are involved etc).

When you click on a thread you see the original message that started the thread and the replies to that message. At this point you can add a reply to this thread.

[This next bit is only for the nerds amongst us
If you click on the 'Reply' above the thread or enter your reply in the reply box at the bottom of the thread then the reply is treated as a reply to the original post in the thread. If you click on the reply button within an individual post in the thread it is considered as a reply to that specific post. This is only relevent if you view the thread in 'Threaded' or 'Nested' message format instead of the default 'Flat' format. You can also view a forum in 'Flat' or 'Threaded' format.]

When you post a comment, there's a screen that says "You will be redirected after a few moments" or similar. Has anyone had the patience to wait for the redirection? I've left it what seemed to me like a few moments and then clicked the "Back" button on the browser when nothing happened.

see what you mean. I've always clicked on the "Review your message for any problems" link on that page which seems to act as a return to forum function.

Agric, is it possible to get any kind of alert from the forum - e.g., in some applications if I leave a comment I can get an e-mail where there's been further comment? The question has also been raised in the Energy group thread. (Or is it a topic?)

I'll do a new thread on this since there are several ways and I'd like others to test them and comment

I'm not sure if it is possible to post to the forums by email? That is a useful feature of the google group but I can't see it here.
