We've just heard some great news, the grant application for our "Million Miles" sustainable travel project has been approved! The project aims to help Black Isle folk cut their car mileage by just 1%... or a million miles a year.

This is going to be a three year project, with the first year concentrating on Fortrose, North Kessock and Muir of Ord - and then we'll apply the lessons learnt there to roll the project out to the rest of the Black Isle. A summary of the project is here . If anyone's interested, there will be one full-time job, and a number of part-time positions.

Hi

I've just heard about grants from CyclingScotland to support community cycling projects.

Their website says "The purpose of the Cycle Friendly and Sustainable Communities Fund is to contribute to a shift away from single occupancy car use, a reduction in carbon emissions and an improvement in wellbeing of communities across Scotland by enabling more people to have more opportunities to cycle. Our aim is to assist local groups to achieve these outcomes in their own communities through innovative new ways of utilising and increasing cycling
How much will we fund?

The amount we will consider funding will depend on the contribution of the project to Cycling Scotland’s vision as stated above. As a guide though, it is unlikely that we will be awarding projects a grant in excess of £6,000".

The closing date for applications is 5pm on the 23rd June 2012. Is that too soon?

This looks like a great scheme, I'm pretty sure it's a continuation of a similar one that was running last year, so hopefully it will continue after the 23rd June cut-off for the current round.

Just now it feels a bit like we have our hands full getting people in place for the existing project, but if anyone has an idea for something complementary that would qualify for the Cycling Scotland scheme (and also has some time to put an application together!) it would be good to hear.
