Cycling over the bridge at 8.40am on Monday I spotted a bemused camera crew on the other side. Where were the queues?

Press and journal says:
Drivers shunned their cars in favour of trains, buses and bikes yesterday – and stopped the Highland capital descending into gridlock.
There had been fears that commuters faced travel chaos because of emergency repairs being carried out on the Kessock Bridge in Inverness.
Delays of up to 75 minutes had been predicted because of the closure of the northbound carriageway and a contraflow system operating on the south.

Apparently the Dingwall to Inverness train had about 90 extra passengers.

It just shows that people can change. Its great to be joined by a few more cyclists this week. Mainly men though. I could do with a bit more solidarity there.

Another alternative is an electric bike. This looks just like a normal bike but has a sneaky battery hidden in the panier rack. It gives about the same power as an extra person peddling. Great for zooming past all those super fit people up hill. If powered by wind turbine or solar panels as in our case it gives the option of a carbon-free low-sweat ride.
I really hope everyone who has tried alternatives this week sticks to them. It will be good for the planet, people's pocket and fitness and reduce frustration for people who really do need to use motor transport over the bridge.
Another option is 'cycle and ride'. How about cycle racks at bus stops please?

It will be interesting to see what they make of this with regard to their plans for next year's bridge repairs.
Park and Ride?
Ferry crossings from Kessock?

I understand they were working on the Cromarty Bridge at the same time. Were there any delays there and has this helped control the traffic on the kessock Bridge?

Personally i gave myself an extra 30 minutes incase of delays, only to find i was arriving at work 30 minutes earlier. What a waste of good sleeping time.

I think the work on the Cromarty Bridge starts next week. I agree with Anne, it's great to see people can change behaviour, the question is, what does it take to maintain the change?
