Just renewing my tax disc (£30 so not too bad- one of the occasions when it pays to be green) and came across this link

Need to bear in mind that at least half the Carbon emissions in the life time of a vehicle are produced in actually making the thing, so it may well be better to keep a less efficient vehicle going as long as you can rather than to scrap it.
