| Is it silly season ? Have i walked in to the twilight zone? or is it too much in this "Indian Summer"?
I suspect that conference season is the reason behind our government bring out 2 of the stupidest ideas i've heard in a long time.
First, paying councils in England £250 million to return weekly bin collections.What?.
And if the wasn't bad enough, they are proposing to increase the speed limits on motorways in England and Wales to 80 mph by 2013.

What happened to reducing the amount of waste going to land fill. Surely by moving back to weekly collection you are telling people that it is ok to increase the amount of waste they produce. I thought the government was required to reduce waste going to land fill. And what about the £250 million? Would that not be better spent on educating people on how to reduce our waste.
What happened to reducing our CO2 emissions? Put off until there is an economic "recovery".
Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said England and Wales' roads "should be the arteries of a healthy economy" and also said he did not think the rise in speed limit would have a "significant impact on safety". Has he never heard of the railways, those are the arteries he is looking for. And since when did increasing a speed limit improve road safety? Any increase in the tax produced by drivers using more fuel will be off set somewhere else.
We can only hope that an Scottish government has more sense. That'll be right.
