Chilling reading of A Week to Ten Days, read by Bill Paterson, followed by the former president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, saying that oil is a finite resource and will run out. Fast forward to 34 mins 18 secs, and listen

| The story was excellent, a rare change to hear this kind of thing aired on R4.
I think in general there's a bit of a problem with definitions. Most of the early debate about peak oil was all about "conventional oil" - i.e.drill a hole in the ground and watch it spurt out. But these days there are all kinds of unconventional oils being used - I can't say I'm au fait with all of them, but as far as I know, they all have a much lower EROI (i.e. the amount of energy gained for each unit of energy used in extraction) than conventional oil. So the timing of peak oil depends on what you include as oil - biodiesel? Etc.
