I've just ordered some crab apple trees at the extravagant price of 36 pence each - but the minimum order was 25, and I can't see how we would want more than half a dozen. So if anyone's interested in taking some of the other 19 let me know! They haven't arrived yet, and even when they do we'll heel them in temporarily, so there's no great rush - although it's probably better to plant them in their final resting place sooner rather than later.

And if you're wondering what to do with crab apples, the answer is mainly jelly (good with low-pectin fruits like brambles, also rose petals, herbs, rowan, etc.) Also, they may help pollinate apples and they have nice flowers.

I wonder if you would consider setting some free, releasing them into the wild as it were.
Perhaps you know of a bleak looking public space, road side verge, traffic island or round about that could do with livening up.
Guerrilla gardening style. Just a thought.

Quite a nice idea - but I'd prefer it if someone cared enough to use the fruit. Six have been spoken for so far, so there are still plenty left, and I'd imagine they would best be planted by mid-March, so there isn't that long to claim them. If they aren't taken before then they might get sold at the Potato Day.

I've only just spotted this post.

I would love a few crab apple trees for Cromarty. Any left?!

How many do you want? I could bring some to the meeting on Thursday at Glachbeg if that helps? They ought to be planted reasonably soon.
