This year's TBI Greening Homes and Gardens Day will be on Saturday 11th September, from 10.00 to 16.00. Homes throughout the Black Isle demonstrating ways to save energy and reduce emissions will be open to the public, and there will be an exhibition of installers and advisors at Findon Hall, Culbokie. This year we will also have a series of seminars at Findon Hall, on Financial Incentives for Renewables, Insulating Hard-to-treat Homes, and Using Compost. More details are at http://www.transitionblackisle.org/greeninghomesandgardens.asp and will be updated as things are finalised.

It seems it is the season for these types of events

This is a link to Rob Hopkins' blog if someone wants to add this event to the comments.

Very odd - Totnes, Stroud, Bristol, Brighton and us, all doing similar events on the same weekend. Must be some kind of conspiracy.

I've just uploaded the programme of seminars at Findon Hall, see http://www.transitionblackisle.org/userfiles/file%5CEnergy%20Group%... and the list of exhibitors (admittedly not quite complete) is at http://www.transitionblackisle.org/userfiles/file/Energy%20Group%20...

I thought I'd use this thread to note changes, otherwise it's going to be difficult for anyone who's already seen the website to keep track. And the change I'm just dealing with is that Inverness College UHI have unfortunately just pulled out of the event, which is a shame because I was looking forward to their seminar on "Insulating Hard-to-Treat Homes". The good news is that Julian Paren has very kindly agreed to fill the gap, with a seminar on "Strategies for Energy Saving in the Home" - looking at where to concentrate to get the most cost-effective energy reductions. As well as being a Transition Black Isle member, Julian is also a tutor in Climate Change at the University of Cambridge, so he's a great addition to the event.

More changes made to the list of exhibitors - extra ones are two Highland Birchwoods projects, Use Green Heat and the Highland Rhodedendron Project (relevant to the splendid oak woods just north of Findon Hall), and Northern Tyre Recycling, who make construction materials out of old tyres. And we've had cancelations from Balcas and (as previously noted) Inverness College UHI). The revised list is at http://www.transitionblackisle.org/userfiles/file/Energy%20Group%20...

Conditions don't look all that great for the solar-powered boat trips tomorrow - if the forecast is right, it could be a bit uncomfortable. Rolf, the skipper, will review the situation at noon on Saturday and decide whether to go ahead then - if anyone wants, they can contact him after that on 07732 837216. Alternatively, ask us at Findon Hall early in the afternoon.

To see Julian's slides, the link should be http://www.transitionblackisle.org/userfiles/file%5CEnergy%20Group%... - the previous attempt had a comma at the end!
