Moray College Human Rights Festival 2019 Postponed

09 December 2019

Festival Rescheduled for 2020

Statement by Moray College about the Festival

"It is with regret that we have decided to reschedule the Human Rights Festival planned for the 9th to 11th December 2019 until later in 2020.

"Each year our students participate in the Amnesty International ‘Write for Rights’ campaign which encourages young people to take action to show their concern and support for those whose human rights are reported by Amnesty International as being denied or under threat.   As a college we see this as a key opportunity to help our students develop as world citizens.

"This year staff were keen to enhance students’ existing experience of Write for Rights by adding on a number of exhibitions and events to broaden their understanding of humanitarian issues. The ability to debate these issues from a number of different viewpoints is a key part of the development of academic skills and a key component of our espousal of academic freedom.

"On reflection we feel that there are wider considerations relating to the event which could be further explored and therefore have taken the decision to postpone the event until these can be incorporated into our planning. If possible we would like the rescheduled event to be even bigger than currently planned with additional events added to all those already scheduled.

"We apologise for the inevitable disappointment this will cause, and again would want to reassure all our partners, exhibitors and attendees that the event is not cancelled, merely delayed.

"Keep an eye on our website for updates."
