Culbokie Woods Christmas work party

01 December 2018, Starts: 10:30, Ends: 14:30

This year’s work party will take place on Saturday 1st December from 10.30am until 2.30pm.

The planned work is to stop the spread of non-native spruce into an area of Glascairn Woods currently dominated by Scots Pine, to maintain the attractive open character of the woods and maximise wildlife diversity.  As usual, participants will be able to select one of the spruce to take home as a Christmas tree.

The meeting point will be the Dun car park, up Glascaitn road from the shop.  (Look out for a layby on the right and historic monument sign).

For further information look out for posters at the woods entrances, on the shop and CCT noticeboards and on the CCT website .

Report from CCT Chair Richard Fyfe

There was a great turnout for our traditional December work party on Saturday 1st – the first official day of winter, and the first day it seems permissible to talk about Christmas trees!  20 or so folk came along to help remove Sitka spruce which were beginning to establish themselves in amongst the lovely, open, pine-dominated bits of Glascairn Woods.  It was a beautiful cold but sunny day, we made a huge difference, and lots of happy people took home a Christmas tree courtesy of the Forestry Commission. There was just one fly in the ointment – we found dozens of plastic bags full of dog poo that someone has thrown into the undergrowth in the vicinity of the paths.  The team of volunteers that manage the dog poo bins provide an excellent facility to enable dog owners to leave the woods clean for others.  There is simply no excuse for this sort of bizarre behaviour. We’ll be on the lookout for culprits!
