For those of us who saw 'Gasland' any shale gas extraction plans are deeply worrying. Coal bed methane doesn't seem quite as bad but a lot of methane is likely to leak and this is a worse greenhouse gas than CO2 so still to be avoided to reach climate change objectives.
The RSPB seem to be coming out fairly strongly against it.
